Brač & Dragon's Cave

This time, we will take you to the island of Brac. We will visit the famous Paradise beach: Zlatni Rat in Bol, but also we will see the miraculous Dragon's cave. The whole day will be scheduled for fun: swimming, diving and sunbathing..

The island of Brac is the largest island in Dalmatia (nearly 400km2) and third largest in the whole country. It's also the highest, with its peak of Vidova Gora providing great views over Bol, the Zlatni Rat beach and the neighbour islandof Hvar.

Brac is known for its top-notch olive oil, lamb, sheep cheese and… stone. Yes, stone. The white stone (stira) is known worldwide for its quality and purity standards.

The paradise beach Zlatni rat is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Croatian coastline and at the same time the most representative panorama of Bol.

It was created by deposits of fine pebbles as sediment around the underwater reef, spreading as a small tongue as much as 500 metres into the sea. The very tip of Zlatni rat keeps changing its shape constantly due to the influence of winds, waves and sea currents, making it appear different and repeatedly interesting.

Zmajeva spilja (the Dragon's Cave) is located near village of Murvica, about 7km from Bol. It is called Dragon's Cave because of the relief of dragon in it. It was a temple and dwelling of Glagolitic priests.

Reliefs in this cave are monument to monastic life of Glagolitic friars in the 15th century. Cave is 20 meters long and divided into four halls. In the first hall, there is Chapel of our Lady.

Reliefs of Madonna angels, moon, dragon and others were carved into the cliff. Many scientists tried to explain the meaning of them. Most of them say that it contains elements of Slavic mythology as well as Christian iconography.

Spiritual history of people seems to be embalmed here, containing its ancient pagan creed reconciled with Christianity.
